Les White Stripes font leur cinéma : Under Great White Northern Lights

Les White Stripes se sont formés en 1997. Et oui, déjà ! Durant l’été 2007, le duo rock du nouveau siècle, le groupe aux 12 millions d’albums vendus dans le monde, le couple qui restera dans l’histoire pour avoir inventé, avec « Seven Nation Army », l’hymne de toute une génération, a décidé de fêter ses 10 ans d’existence en s’offrant une tournée au Canada. Le pari était ambitieux : jouer dans chacune des provinces de ce territoire. Pour l’occasion, Jack avait emmené avec lui le réalisateur Emmett Malloy. L’idée était de suivre le groupe et d’en tirer un documentaire qui garderait une trace de cette tournée. Malloy avait déjà travaillé avec les White Stripes, réalisant quelques videos pour le groupe. Le résultat de tout ceci ? Under Great White Northern Lights, un CD live avec DVD, témoignage de la dernière tournée des White Stripes à ce jour. Ce film sortira le 15 Mars.

A cette occasion, une soirée baptisée Under Parisian Lights est organisée au Grand Rex (Paris) le 27 Février. Ce sera l’unique projection française au cinéma du film Under Great White Northern Lights. Elle aura lieu en présence du réalisateur, Emmett Malloy, et du producteur du film, Mike Sarkissian.

Formed in Detroit in 1997 with Meg White and its leader Jack White, who is considered as the best guitarist of decade, the White Stripes is a duet who became, within 10 years, one of biggest group rock by selling more than 12 million albums in the world and by inventing the hymn of a whole generation: “Seven Nation Army”. In the summer of 2007, shortly after the release of their 6th album Icky Thump, The White Stripes headed north of their hometown of Detroit to embark on an ambitious journey across Canada. The plan was to play a show in every province and territory in Canada, from B.C. to Newfoundland to Nunavut. White called upon filmmaker Emmett Malloy to come and document this trek for the band. Malloy had directed videos for the band in the past. The end result was Under Great White Northern Lights. The film proposes an intimate and emotional vision of the group through their last world and anniversary tour in 2007, the duet making rare since this period.

Come to attend Under Parisian Lights, the unique French screening in movie theatre of Under Great White Northern Lights on Saturday February 27th at 9hpm in Le Grand Rex (Paris, France) with the attendance of the director Emmett Malloy and the producer Mike Sarkissian.
